The In Between (The Sandwich)

Everyone has a different take on life. It’s not by choice, but I have the nihilistic take. It is based on what I have seen in the world and everything I have experienced. There is nothingness, a lack of existence, the quality of not being. These are poor attempts at saying one does not exist. For if one does not exist, language breaks down. If one lacks the quality of “being” at all, it makes no sense to refer to that entity in any way whatsoever.

So there, in that lack of state, we “exist” (but not really) for eternity. Then we are born and find we “exist”. We find that we “are”.

Things happen, lots of drama, lots of suffering and a bit of euphoria to boot. Families are made, civilizations are built, politics are forged, and the rule of law is enforced, along with the senseless act of punishment (but I digress).

Then we die. Back to that eternal state from which we came.

What was the significance of the in between? What was the point? Lots of theatre and drama for man, for the illusioned. But for the rest of us… nothing.

The nullification of death, that ultimate destiny or fate, makes fools of us all. And fools we are. Acting as if any of our ministrations are of any importance.

Perhaps they are of importance to “you”, but you weren’t anything from the start.

That’s the sandwich. The “in between”. Maybe for the fortunate souls it goes well and all of this mental masturbation is much ado about nothing. But for many of us, those unfortunate souls, it is madness. An eternal abyss punctuated by a harsh awareness of something. And that something is so often excruciating.

When that “something” becomes overbearing, release back into the abyss is the only “salvation” (but let’s be clear there is no salvation, except for the abyss that was always there). Madness.

Avoid it at all costs.
